More than 7,000 people have been evacuated from the affected areas and about 18,000 people are still missing. The victims include over half a dozen children and young people.
Alajuela is one of a number of towns hit by the earthquake and tsunami.

At least 15 people have been killed in landslides and houses and damage caused by the tsunami, the USGS said in a statement.
The quake struck at 8:48 a.m. local time.
President Juan Manuel Santos cancelled a visit t
